Could not think of a better phrasing for the title. In this post I am brainstorming about the main “beats” of Type Relations so that I can have a singular visual format for providing overviews for each Type Relation. These overviews will help AP neophytes grok the Type Relations. Obviously, everything below is based on Rob’s official website, so credit to him as always.
I want to include “badges” in the overview section. The badges are icons that provide a quick visual reference about the nature of the relation. Rob already has some nice icons for each Type Relation and I want to expand the use of that sort of thing.
Firstly we have the three main categories of Type Relations as I explained in this post: Linear, Rectangular, and Triangular. Those can be displayed as badges.
Secondly we have the Linear Groupings: Same Club, same [new_group], and same Sexta. Another badge. I think each of the groups within the groupings should have its own badge and the shape or border of the badge will denote the type of grouping (club, new_group, or Sexta).
We should also have a badge when relations are between Types in Opposing Sextas. Probably something like an exclamation mark or “not allowed” symbol on a red shield or circle.
I was thinking it would be interesting to show the levels of overall psychosophic “love” with a bar graph. We can replace Afanasiev’s terms with others if we so choose, but keeping his, the four bars would be: Eros, Philia, Pseudo-Philia, and Agape. Perhaps rather than textual labels beneath the bars we can have little icons for the four types of “love.”
Here is a shitty mock-up I made.
I neglected to add the Attitude Relations boxes – that will definitely be an inclusion. I might align the two type’s boxes vertically in order to draw colored lines between them in this sort of fashion:
I have a formula for calculating the overall degree of imbalance between asymmetrical types, so the score can be displayed within the badge marking the relation as asymmetrical.
Lastly, it would be good to have a short, 2-4 bullet-point summary of the relation prior to the in-depth examination.
